FAT BERGS and Ajax Drains guest appearance on the Tubridy Show

"Fat bergs" is a phrase coined recently in the UK to describe the accumulation of fat, sanitary items ,wipes and similar items found in sewer systems.

The Tubridy Show presented by Brendan O'Connor, recently rang us up for a comment following a newspaper article on Fat bergs.

Our gaffer Dara was only too keen to oblige but at the end of the interview I think Brendan wished he hadn't started it.

The interview started with Dara describing fatbergs, or just plain rag as we call it here,as being mainly wipes and lilletts. Wipes are put down the jax by young mothers cleaning the baby, teenagers cleaning off makeup or older incontinent people with quite often carers putting the wipes down the loo. These wipes should not be placed down the loo even if it says so on the packet as they will all congeal together and even if they don't block your sewer they may well block your neighbor as modern sewer systems in built up areas are all connected together.

"So it's mainly wipes that make up fatbergs" asked Brendan, "and the lilletts" replied Dara, a topic I think was a bit early in the morning for Brendan as you could nearly hear him becoming squeamish on the far end of the line.

"There's something else I probably shouldn't say "said Dara "well don't "said Brendan, but before he could turn off the mike Dara said "the eastern Europeans are putting vegetables down the loo so as they don't have to pay to dispose of them in the bin."

Ah well it will probably turn all the rats vegetarian!
